1- Description of professions: (which the graduate will practice upon graduation from vocational education and training institutions)
The activities of vehicle mechanics are different and varied, as they include inspecting, operating, repairing and maintaining various motor vehicles, as mechanics perform periodic maintenance operations and renewing engines (overhaul) in addition to repairing various faults and general inspection of the vehicle by following the instructions and laws of occupational health and safety, and some mechanics may work in the field of selling spare parts because of their experience in this field. Mechanics perform periodic maintenance of the vehicle and read the maintenance manual issued by the manufacturer, and then determine the methods and standards for inspection and adjustment of the various systems, as they measure the cylinder pressure and analyze the exhaust gas in addition to changing the engine oil and inspecting the filters (filters) and replacing them when needed, as well as inspecting and lubricating the engines and other parts of the vehicle and then performing the process of ensuring the safety of belts, hoses and steering devices Spark plugs, brakes, tire capacity, and other parts that may cause malfunctions. Vehicle mechanics perform the necessary maintenance on the vehicle after the vehicle has traveled a certain number of kilometers, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Some parts of the systems and various parts are replaced, in addition to performing the necessary lubrication operations, such as lubricating the engine and its parts, tightening the bolts, and other procedures. When the engine requires a renewal process (overhaul), the mechanic measures the cylinder pressure, analyzes the exhaust gas, diagnoses and determines the procedures for renewing the engine, then isolates the cooling, fuel, and electrical circuits from the engine and lifts it using cranes. Then he disassembles the engine head and checks its levelness, the condition of the valves, their guides and springs, and disassembles the internal parts of the engine to check the wear of the cylinders, the condition of the pistons and their rings and the straightness of the connecting rods. Then he measures and determines the amount of wear in the camshaft, crankshaft and liners, and then determines the proportions of turning and seating the engine components in light of the measurements that were made. After carrying out the necessary procedures and repairs, the engine is assembled and installed, then connected to the circuits that were disconnected from it at the beginning of the renewal process, inspected and restarted. In the event of a sudden vehicle breakdown, the mechanic determines the system that caused the breakdown, such as the cooling system, or the electrical circuit..., and then a traceable inspection of the system in question is carried out. When the damaged part is discovered, the mechanic replaces or repairs it, then reassembles the system and inspects it again. It is worth noting that electronic and computerized inspection devices have become very important in the process of diagnosing faults due to the increasing technological complexities in cars and the use of electronics in most of the systems operating in the car. When the vehicle enters the garage, the mechanic usually fills out a special card for the car, recording the number of kilometers traveled, the fuel meter and other information related to the history of the car and its mechanical condition. This information is used as a reference and is kept in the car file for periodic maintenance and repair purposes. Before starting the repair or maintenance process, all necessary measures are taken to maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle and the safety of its internal and external parts.
Vehicle mechanics sometimes perform general vehicle inspections in garages, car licensing and inspection departments, or in private workshops to ensure the vehicle's mechanical eligibility, safety, engine serviceability, and availability of general road safety requirements. The inspection steps are similar to those in the periodic maintenance process. General inspections are also performed when someone wants to buy a vehicle to ensure its eligibility. Since many mechanics run their own garages, they perform a lot of administrative work such as bookkeeping, record keeping, employee affairs management, and more.
2- The competencies required to perform these tasks: (The competencies and skills that are trained in vocational education and training institutions to be able to practice the profession according to the description above)
To perform the previous tasks, the car mechanic needs to obtain the competencies of knowledge, skills and directions necessary for that, starting from general competencies in identifying the parts of the diesel and gasoline engine and the principle of operation of each of them, diagnosing mechanical and electronic engine faults, identifying faults in the hydraulic braking system and the anti-slip system and performing the necessary maintenance and acquiring the necessary skills in identifying faults in some electronic systems in modern cars such as (TC, ESP, (SRS), to specialized competencies in the field of maintenance of electronic devices in vehicles using computerized inspection devices and inspection, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical vehicle tools and parts such as ignition systems, air conditioners, alarm systems, etc. and repair and maintenance work, and how to conduct defect reports that are Identifying them, tracking electrical circuits related to the fuel system, normal and electronic ignition, and using diagnostic and inspection devices to identify faults in modern cars, identifying transmission systems, identifying faults and maintaining them, identifying faults in the hydraulic braking system and the anti-slip system and performing the necessary maintenance, and knowledge of the tools and equipment used and general safety procedures. And English language skills, especially those related to the profession, and reviewing the catalogs related to the profession, and the necessary life skills and building the personality necessary to carry out the required tasks. And the competencies that enable him to carry out the work mentioned in the description of the profession (which are the qualifications required for the labor market), in addition to mastering the modern technology skills that the labor market needs. And the entrepreneurial and administrative training necessary to open his own project. He acquires these skills and competencies through education and vocational training that the young man receives in vocational training institutions.
2- Work environment, workplaces and the possibility of professional development:
1- Workplaces
2- Professional developmentThe possibility of starting as an assistant car mechanic after graduation, even though the period varies according to previous experience and the ability to develop, and then work as a mechanic, and it is possible for his/her work to develop over time to become a specialized mechanic with experience, and in medium and large workshops it is possible to develop to work as a mechanic supervisor, and many car mechanics create their own work. Income develops and multiplies according to development, gaining experience and demonstrating the ability to develop, and this is what distinguishes a graduate of a vocational education and training institution from someone who joins the labor market without a profession.
In addition, income and employment are linked to the general economic situation, but statistics showed a high ability for vocational graduates to find work or open their own business. Vocational graduate
3-Qualification for the profession: (training locations, forms, admission requirements, and the possibility of completing education)
1- Vocational training locations
Some centers provide training in car mechanics only, others add autotronics (vehicle electronics), some add auto electricity, and some add autotronics and auto electricity together in the mechanics specialization or combine the mechanics and auto electricity specialization, which qualifies graduates of each of them to work in different fields. To know more details, please review the institutions' pages themselves.
2- Admission requirements
There are short courses on demand in these centers to develop the skills of workers in the profession and for the unemployed or according to the target group.
3- Options for completing education
Some institutions are:
Those who have completed the vocational guidance can complete their education in colleges and applied universities. Those who have not completed the vocational guidance through their institution can apply for it through private study two years after graduation and work in the profession (some institutions hold qualifying courses to apply for the exam).
The certificate obtained from these centers qualifies its holder to work as a professional in the labor market without the need to complete his/her studies.
