The Vocational Training Program (VTP), one of the LWF Jerusalem Program’s oldest projects, has been providing vocational training to Palestinian youth since 1949. The VTP began on the grounds of Augusta Victoria Hospital, originally offering young men a three-year training program in carpentry, auto-mechanics, or metalwork. In 1964, the VTP moved from the LWF Mount of Olives campus to a new and larger facility in Beit Hanina, a northern neighborhood of Jerusalem, where the Vocational Training Center (VTC) thrives today.
The Center opened its doors first time in 1949 in the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. New buildings were added in Beit Hanina in 1964 and in 2000, the Center inaugurated a pioneering section for training girls; hence, becoming the first vocational training programs for girls. The Center then opened a branch in Ramallah in order to fulfill the market need for trained people in different vocational areas. The Beit Hanina center still delivers programs that are designed to meet market needs. The programs are designed by trained, skillful, and qualified people in all fields. Moreover, new specializations are added in handicrafts and catering.
