How to Help Your Son and Daughter Make a Choice

Welcome! Parents play a significant role in shaping the choices of their sons and daughters as they begin to explore future careers. This is achieved through:

  • Supporting their children's choices and encouraging them to exert more effort in the training or education they have chosen.
  • Increasing the amount of information they have about available study and training opportunities, as well as various professions.
  • Focusing on their beliefs about the importance of work and their attitudes towards it.
  • Firmly believing in the success of their children, which can serve as motivation for them.

Occupational Choices: It is crucial to understand that a significant part of our children's behavior is influenced by the environment they live in, and their personalities are the result of what they have learned in this environment. Therefore, there are several factors that greatly influence our children's choices, even though we may not pay attention to them, including:

  1. Expectations and hopes that parents have for their children academically and professionally.
  2. The behavior of parents serves as a model for their children.
  3. The values and standards adopted by parents.
  4. The opportunities provided by parents for studying and training.
  5. The nature of the relationship between parents and children.

Exploring and Enhancing Inclinations:

Many studies have shown that a student's desire and inclination towards a specialization contribute to their success in that profession, and other factors in the selection do not lead the student to the same result. Therefore, to provide a healthy and suitable environment for your children to choose their career path based on their inclinations and abilities:

  1. Encourage your children to focus on education and training before entering the job market (and provide information about vocational education and training).
  2. Strengthen your children's understanding of themselves and their capabilities, and link them to the available opportunities (which the portal provides through tests).
  3. Develop their knowledge of professions and jobs (which the portal provides through occupation cards).
  4. Develop their ability to believe in the importance of work and promote work-related values in society (such as work as worship, honesty in work, collaboration, respect for time, and the importance of achievement).
  5. Develop their dialogue skills and decision-making abilities.
  6. Develop the talents and skills they have possessed since childhood.
  7. Allow them to explore the suitability of the profession for their inclinations, abilities, and personalities by researching professions in the job market, visiting workplaces, and talking to professionals. You can accompany them and conduct research with them, but let them make the decision themselves based on the information, visits, and tests they have conducted.
