Vocational Training Program - Nablus


Brief of institution :

Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology was founded in October 2001 by Hisham Adeeb Hijjawi Foundation and An-Najah National University with international and Arab support as well as generous support from the German government. The college was founded mainly to support vocational and technical education through theoretical comprehensiveness and practical application programs to supply the labor market with technicians who can stay up-to-date with the massive development in all technological fields the College provides. The programs are two-year programs designed for all streams of secondary school graduates. The College also provides programs that aim to rehabilitate the labor force through specialized one-year courses.

Vision: Achieving leadership and excellence locally and regionally in the field of vocational education.

Mission: Preparing distinguished technical cadres and high competencies that qualify them to work and compete locally and regionally in the labor market by providing technical and vocational educational programs according to modern educational curricula, advanced infrastructure, and distinguished educational staff.

Projects

The Studies and Projects Unit is one of the administrative units affiliated with the Office of the Dean of Hisham Hijjawi Technological College, which primarily focuses on tasks related to achieving development within the college's strategic plan. The department works through collaboration with academic departments and various offices to develop infrastructure and different resources; in addition to enhancing the competencies of employees, students, and graduates in scientific and practical fields, through projects aimed at serving the college internally and the local community as well. Furthermore, the Studies and Projects Unit unifies efforts, processes, and reports related to the implementation of all development projects funded by donor institutions. This unit works on developing and building an integrated standard system for project implementation that allows for optimal and most effective alignment with the various resources and assets allocated to different projects.

Current projects

  • Main partner in the (SkillsUp Youth Training - Skilled Young Palestine - Enhancing Resilience and Employment Opportunities for Youth - ENABLE) project with the Nablus Chamber of Commerce and Industry to implement vocational training programs for youth in the field of modern agriculture.
  • Key partner in the project (Skilled Young Palestine - Enhancing Resilience and Employment Opportunities for Youth - ENABLE) with the Palestinian Federation of Industries to implement vocational training programs for youth in the field of renewable energy.
  • Partnership with the Canadian Lutheran World Federation (CLWR) in implementing the Gender-Responsive and Inclusive Vocational and Technical Education and Training Project (GRIT) in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which includes developing vocational programs, providing scholarships for girls, upgrading laboratory infrastructure at the college, and building the capacities of the academic and technical staff at the college.
  • The project to introduce a medium diploma specialization in the maintenance of electric and hybrid vehicles, and to align it with labor market requirements within the Demand-Driven Technical and Vocational Education and Training (DO TVET/GIZ) program.
  • The GREENLAND project, funded under the ENI CBC Med cross-border cooperation program for the Mediterranean Basin, aims to increase job opportunities for NEETs (up to 30 years old) and women (all ages) by providing them with marketable skills and qualifications; to prepare them for skill-based professions in the green economy and generalization sectors and to reduce skill mismatches, particularly in rural areas affected by climate change (https://www.enicbcmed.eu/projects/greenland).
  • Completed projects
  • The vocational training program for pioneering girls in the "Najaha" project for empowering women, youth, entrepreneurship, and employment in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, implemented by the Development Work Center/Together: conducting vocational courses for pioneering girls in the fields of (hydroponics/aeroponics, agricultural entrepreneurship, cultivation and production of economically promising crops: cultivating wild artichoke and prickly pear).
  • The project "Fair Development of Agricultural Production and Market Systems in the Palestinian Territories," supervised and in partnership with Oxfam and the Agricultural Risk and Insurance Fund, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture; manufacturing, constructing, and installing (weather-resistant agricultural plastic houses) in Nablus Governorate – Nasariya (Al-Najah Center for Agricultural Training and Research (Field School)).
  • The project to develop the mechatronics specialization plan to keep pace with the rapid advancements in vehicle technology, and to rehabilitate and train teachers and trainers in this specialization, thereby improving the quality of technical education funded by the World Bank.
  • The project for developing specializations and programs in field farms within the vocational and technical education and training support program in Palestine, implemented by the German Cooperation Agency GIZ and funded by the European Union.
  • The project for rehabilitating and enhancing the skills of unemployed university graduates, funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, aims to provide unemployed university graduates, both young men and women from all disciplines, with technical skills.
