Description of professions: (which the graduate will practice upon graduation from vocational education and training institutions)

Alarm, surveillance, and smart building systems technicians work on installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing security, surveillance, and building control systems. They install and operate surveillance camera systems, burglar and fire alarm systems, access control systems, and various communication and control devices, following technical drawings, manufacturers’ instructions, and occupational health and safety procedures.

They install wires, cables, and connections for these systems, program alarm and surveillance devices, connect system components, and carry out the necessary tests to make sure the systems work properly. They also identify faults using suitable measuring and testing equipment, repair or replace damaged components, perform regular maintenance, and update system settings when needed.

Smart building systems technicians also install and operate automated building control systems, such as lighting, air conditioning, energy management, doors, and blinds, and connect them to building control and monitoring systems. They record installation and maintenance work, document faults and repairs, and keep track of maintenance activities. Graduates can work in security and surveillance companies, contracting, electrical, and telecommunications companies, building maintenance and operation organizations, or provide installation and maintenance services independently.

The competencies required to perform these tasks: (The competencies and skills that are trained in vocational education and training institutions to be able to practice the profession according to the description above)

To perform the tasks mentioned above, alarm, surveillance, and smart building systems technicians need knowledge and skills in electrical and electronic systems, security and surveillance systems, and control systems. These include installing, connecting, and testing wires and cables; installing, programming, and operating surveillance cameras, fire and burglar alarm systems, and access control systems; connecting different system components; identifying and repairing faults using suitable measuring and testing equipment; and reading technical drawings and manuals.
