1- Description of the profession, the competencies required for the labor market and the required skills:

1- Description of the profession: (which the graduate will practice upon graduation from vocational education and training institutions)
The building maintenance profession includes two main fields: electrical extension maintenance and sanitary extension maintenance, as well as general building maintenance.
  • Electrical extension maintenance professional: performs various and diverse works in the field of electrical extensions and their maintenance, to include the installation, connection, inspection and maintenance of the various electrical circuits necessary for lighting and for supplying industrial, office or home equipment, machines and equipment with energy. Before starting work, the electrical extension professional receives an explanation and instructions from technicians or specialists about the electrical plans and drawings that need to be implemented, as well as the time required to implement these plans. After that, the professionals, using engineering plans, determine the locations of electrical distribution points, lighting points, outlets and the locations of the central panels for the disconnect switches. These locations are marked on the walls. The paths of the electrical wires inside the walls are also determined and marked and extensions are made for them according to the engineering plan. In addition to making the necessary electrical extensions for lighting and supply, many electrical extension workers also make the extensions and install the panels necessary to operate the heating burners (boilers). The safety of the electrical circuit and the safety of the connection are verified according to the plan. The circuit is connected to the electric current and inspected. Maintenance professionals work to inspect the electrical extensions, identify faults and maintain them.   • As ​​for sanitary extension maintenance professionals, they transport and prepare materials, tools and equipment to implement the installation and maintenance of home water and sewage systems, prepare the path and levels of network lines and installation sites for their elements according to the executive plans, dig the network path in walls and ceilings, cut, bend and connect pipes and tubes, extend water pipe networks and sewage pipes, install sanitary pieces and their accessories, water heaters, pumps and water tanks, and maintain water and sewage systems networks. They apply occupational safety and health procedures and instructions.
  • General Maintenance Professional: He performs comprehensive maintenance of buildings, including maintenance of electrical and sanitary extensions as mentioned above, and includes general maintenance work such as wood and paint maintenance, changing locks and simple tiling within residential and public buildings. And applying safety and health procedures and instructions.

2- The competencies required to perform these tasks: (The competencies and skills that are trained in vocational education and training institutions to be able to practice the profession according to the description above)
To perform the previous tasks, building maintenance workers need to obtain the necessary competencies of knowledge, skills and trends, starting from general competencies in the field of diagnosis and identification of faults and reading engineering plans and working according to them, to specialized competencies in both the field of sanitary extensions for buildings, and electrical extensions as well, so that they are able to master the use of engineering plans by determining the locations of electrical distribution points, lighting points, outlets and locations of central panels for disconnection switches, and these locations are marked on the walls, as well as mastering and preparing the path of public water and sewage networks and rainwater drainage and their levels and locations of their elements according to the executive plans, cutting, connecting and bending pipes and tubes, and extending public water networks And its elements, and knowledge of the tools and equipment used and general safety procedures. As well as mastering English language skills, especially those related to the profession, and using catalogs related to the profession, and skills in using engineering computer programs specialized in electrical and sanitary extensions and general maintenance, and the necessary life skills and building the personality necessary to carry out the required tasks. And the competencies that enable him to carry out the work mentioned in the description of the profession (which are the qualifications required for the labor market), in addition to mastering the modern technology skills that the labor market needs, and the entrepreneurial and administrative skills necessary to open his own project. Workers in this profession acquire these skills and competencies through education and vocational training that they obtain in vocational education and training institutions.

2- Work environment, workplaces and the possibility of professional development:

1- Workplaces
  • Hotels, hospitals, educational institutions, and industrial facilities
  • Construction workshops (residential, commercial, and public buildings, old and new)
  • Construction contracting companies or engineering offices
  • Stores selling materials and equipment needed for work
  • Private workshops (for customers)

2- Professional development
The possibility of starting as a professional assistant in electrical extensions or sanitary extensions? Or building maintenance after graduation, and the period varies according to previous experience and the ability to develop, and then work as a professional in sanitary and electrical extensions and building maintenance, and it is possible for his/her work to develop over time to become a specialized professional with experience in either the field of sanitary extensions or electrical extensions or building maintenance, and in medium and large facilities and workshops it is possible to develop to work As a professional supervisor and many plumbing professionals, electrical professionals, and maintenance professionals create their own business. Income develops and multiplies according to development, gaining experience, and demonstrating the ability to develop, and this is what distinguishes a graduate of a vocational education and training institution from someone who joins the labor market without a profession.

In addition, income and employment are linked to the general economic situation, but statistics showed a high ability for vocational graduates to find work or open their own business.

3-Qualification for the profession: (training locations, forms, admission requirements, and the possibility of completing education)

2- Admission Requirements
  • Focuses on students who have completed the basic stage of education (tenth grade) and are between the ages of 16-20.

There are short courses on demand in these centers to develop the skills of workers in the profession and the unemployed or according to the target group.

3- Completing Education
There are multiple options for completing education in professions:
  • The certificate acquired from the center qualifies its holder to work as a professional in the labor market without the need to complete his/her studies.
  • There is the possibility of joining the vocational guidance for private study if the student meets some conditions (completing the ninth grade as a minimum, age at least 19 years, two years of practical experience in the profession)
  • Those who have completed the vocational guidance can complete their education in colleges and applied universities.
