1- Description of the professions related to the specializations of the clothing industry - sewing and design :) that the graduate will practice upon graduation from vocational education and training institutions)
Workers in the field of sewing transform natural or synthetic woven fabrics, leather or fur into clothing and other consumer products. Clothing production begins with the design being developed by fashion and clothing designers. Workers in the field of sewing convert the design into a production sample, and draw each of the different pieces that make up the design on special papers (patterns), and determine the production processes required to be carried out on these pieces and the mechanism for assembling them in the form of a final product, and cut the woven fabrics in the form of pattern pieces, and arrange the required length of the cloth garment in the form of several layers on the cutting table, and cut the required model from the fabric according to the most appropriate arrangement so that the amount of wasted fabric is as little as possible. Then the tailor performs various modification and assembly operations on the pieces of fabric, including making buttonholes, installing buttons and various fasteners, embroidery, and assembling the various pieces in the shape of the final product and sewing them according to the design.
The tailor uses different machines for each of the above-mentioned operations, such as sewing machines for assembling and processing the edges, knitting and buttonhole machines for producing buttonholes, and electric scissors for cutting the fabric, etc. The shape and appearance of the produced piece depends largely on the ironing process that takes place in all stages of production, and this is done manually or by steam irons and pressing machines. Some workers specialize in ironing machines for different types of fabric, while others are responsible for the final ironing process by steam irons before the goods are shipped. The tailor must be able to perform all the mentioned production stages, but the work required from the tailor and the skill level of the workers differ according to the type of workshop and the size of the production. In large workshops that produce large quantities of the same design, workers usually specialize in operating specific machines such as cutting machines or knitting machines, etc., and the skill level required from the workers is usually limited. As for small workshops, the work requires operating and monitoring more than one type of machine and participating in more than one stage of production, thus demonstrating higher levels of skill. As for tailors working in workshops that tailor clothes to the piece according to the customer's desire, the tailor works on tailoring the piece from start to finish, and they help the customer choose the appropriate fabric, the required model and all other details, all according to the customer's taste and request. This type of tailor must have full knowledge of all stages of sewing and have high levels of skill. There may also be specialized tailors, such as a tailor specializing in men's shirts and blazers, a children's clothing tailor, and a women's clothing tailor. Sometimes, tailors perform tasks of repairing and modifying clothes, such as shortening, narrowing, and changing the model to suit the customer.justify;">If the work requires designing clothes, the tailor/designer is required to have full knowledge of the types of fabrics, colors, and different models, and the ability to design different clothes that suit different tastes.
2- Description of the specialty: The competencies required to perform these tasks: (The competencies and skills that are trained in vocational education and training institutions to be able to practice the professions related to clothing manufacturing specialties according to the description above)
To perform the previous tasks, the tailor needs to obtain the competencies of knowledge, skills and directions necessary for that, starting from general competencies in the field of calculation and measurements and knowledge of the types of fabric and different materials and colors, to specialized competencies in the field of cutting multiple layers of fabric into parts for the purpose of making ready-made clothes according to designs and drawings, to assembling the pieces, knitting and opening the buttonholes, and installing buttons and various additional pieces according to the design. The tailor also needs the skill of repairing and modifying clothes, and knowledge of the tools and equipment used and general safety procedures. In addition to the above, the designer needs to master the skills of designing and using different materials and adapting different tastes or transferring designs and models onto fabrics or similar materials, and using catalogs related to the profession, and related computer sites, in addition to English language skills, especially those related to the profession, and the necessary life skills and character building skills necessary to carry out the required tasks and the competencies that enable him to carry out the work mentioned in the description of the profession (which are the qualifications required for the labor market), in addition to mastering the modern technology skills that the labor market needs. Vocational education and training institutions qualify him to enter the labor market through multiple training programs.
